Our Members

The NZAO has 76 full members around New Zealand. To become a member of the NZAO an orthodontist must have:

  • A dental degree or qualification recognised by the Dental Council of New Zealand.
  • A higher qualification in Orthodontics recognised by the Dental Council of New Zealand.
  • At least two years clinical experience in exclusive practice of orthodontics other than in formal training.
  • At least two years experience in general dentistry.
  • All our members also undergo regular Continuing Professional Development including ongoing education, training and peer assessment.
 

Claudia Bachmann
Auckland

Dr. Claudia Bachmann graduated from the University of Erlangen/Nuremberg 1993 with a Masters degree in Dental Surgery and a PHD. After working a year and a half as a dentist she undertook postgraduate orthodontic specialist training in Nuremburg and Munich from 1995 until 1998.

Claudia opened her own orthodontic clinic in Germany which she ran successfully with her husband Lutz for 12 years. The family moved to New Zealand with their three young children in 2009 and took over a small practice in Albany, Auckland. Claudia and her husband Lutz moved the practice into new premises in 2010.

Lutz Bachmann
Auckland

Dr. Lutz Bachmann graduated in 1988 from the University of Erlangen/Nuremberg with a Masters degree in Dental Surgery and a PHD. Dr Bachmann ran a private dental clinic from 1992 until 1998 when he followed his wife's footsteps into orthodontics.

He undertook his postgraduate specialist training in Munich and Guenzburg from 1998 until 2001. Lutz ran a large orthodontic practice with his wife Claudia until end of 2009. The family moved to New Zealand in 2009, and Lutz and his wife Claudia have a specialist orthodontic practice in Albany, Auckland.

Christine Bailey
Christchurch

Born and bred in Christchurch, Chrissy graduated in Dentistry from the University of Otago in 2003. She furthered her studies at the University of Melbourne, where she obtained a Doctorate in Orthodontics. She returns to Christchurch from working privately at Pure Orthodontics in Melbourne and publicly at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital where she has also been teaching orthodontics to dental students. Chrissy is passionate about working with her patients and getting to know them. She gets a great deal of satisfaction reflecting on the patients she has treated and the beautiful outcomes she has helped to achieve. She remembers the difference orthodontic treatment made to her as a teenager, and enjoys coming in to work knowing that she’ll have the same positive impact on her patients’ smiles. Chrissy is married to Sonnie, and they have two young children Ben and Anna.

Chrissy is a member of the New Zealand Dental association and New Zealand Association of Orthodontics as well as the Australian Society of Orthodontics, the Australian Orthodontic Board, the Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Edinburgh College of Surgeons. She regularly attends conferences, seminars and courses to keep up to date with new procedures.

Matt Barker
Wellington

Matt graduated with a Science degree from the University of Canterbury, and later with a Dental degree from the University of Otago. He practiced as a dentist at the Hutt Hospital, in Kent (UK) and Christchurch (NZ).

Matt graduated with a Masters of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics (with distinction) and moved to Wellington to start a private practice and raise a family. He returned to the Hutt Hospital and has been on the maxillofacial and cleft palate teams since 2004. He has a special interest in presurgical nasoelveolar moulding of cleft palate babies.

Matt is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, New Zealand Orthodontic Association, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. He has also lectured at national conferences of the New Zealand Dental Association, the New Zealand Dental Therapy Association and to auxiliaries at the New Zealand Orthodontic Association.

Karen Brook  

Karen Brook
North Shore, Auckland

Karen is a specialist orthodontist in Rothesay Bay on the Auckland’s North Shore. In 1977 she graduated as a dentist from the University of Otago, gaining her BDS with Distinction. In 1981 she completed the specialist orthodontic postgraduate program at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, training in both fixed braces and functional appliance treatment. She then moved to London to work as an orthodontist at Great Ormond St Children’s Hospital and Kingston Hospital.

On returning to New Zealand in 1984, Karen worked as an orthodontic associate with Robert Max, George Linn and Pat Bell in Remuera. In 1995 she established a specialist orthodontic practice on the North Shore and was joined in practice in 2011 by Kimberley Timmins. Karen is a Past President of the NZAO and is currently Chair of the NZAO Mentoring Committee and actively involved in the development of the NZAO Wish for a Smile Trust.

Susan Carpenter
Orewa, Auckland

Susan completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at Otago University in 1991. She then worked in hospital departments in New Zealand for two years before going to the United Kingdom to broaden her experience. While in the UK, Susan completed her specialty training in orthodontics graduating from Kings College, London with a Master of Science and Membership in Orthodontics in 2001. Susan worked in orthodontic practice in London for two years before returning to New Zealand and starting practice as a specialist orthodontist in Orewa in 2004.

Mike Courtney

Mike has strong family links to the Manawatu-Horowhenua area, and though he wasn't born here, he considers himself a local. As a newly-graduated dentist, Mike's decision to set up his practice in Palmerston North was an easy one because it was, in a sense, coming home.

Mike practiced as a general dentist in Terrace End for 10 years before returning to Otago University, where he was fortunate to be one of three students selected to undertake the Masters Course in Orthodontics. On completion of the course in 1994, Mike returned to Palmerston North to set up his Specialist practice.

Marguerite Crooks

Marguerite is a registered specialist orthodontist in Christchurch where she has been working since 1996 in the Riccarton Orthodontic Practice with Peter Fowler and Russell Lovatt, and then from 2012, due to the Christchurch earthquake disaster has relocated to the Ilam Orthodontic Practice with Peter Fowler.

Marguerite has a Bachelor of Physical Education (1982), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (1987) and a Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics (1993) all from Otago University.

Marguerite is a member of the New Zealand Orthodontic Association and the New Zealand Dental Association.

Wayne Dalley  

Wayne H Dalley 
Whangarei

Graduating from Dunedin's Otago University with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, Wayne practiced as a dentist in New Plymouth. In 1973 he returned to Otago University as a lecturer and also completed his specialty training in orthodontics, graduating with a Masters of Dental Surgery (Orthodontics) in 1975. Wayne started his specialty orthodontic practice in Whangarei in 1976 and has been there ever since. In addition to a private orthodontic practice he was also the Hospital Orthodontist retiring from that position in 2009. Wayne has branch practices in Kaitaia, and Kerikeri.

Wayne has been actively involved with the NZ Association of Orthodontists for over 10 years, being a Committee member and President from 1997-9. He is also an international member of the American Association of Orthodontists and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists.

Sax Dearing

Sax Dearing, MDS(Otago), DHA(Massey), FRACDS, FRACDS(Orth) is a highly trained and experienced orthodontist working in the twin cities of Napier and Hastings, and has a branch practice in Masterton. He holds an appointment with the Hawke's Bay District Health Board treating patients with severe craniofacial abnormalities in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team from the Plastic and Reconstructive Unit at Hutt Hospital.

Sax is one of only 8 candidates world-wide (to date) to have ever gained the Fellowship in Orthodontics from the Australasian College of Dental Surgeons by examination. He has a special interest in treatment with Temporary Anchorage Devices and Orthognathic Surgery.

Mark Ewing  

Mark Ewing

Mark graduated with a BDS from the University of Otago, qualified as an orthodontist in Rochester, New York and spent two years as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Cranio-Facial Department at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Having worked in London and Canada, he returned to New Zealand in 1988 to open a private practice in Hamilton and raise a family. A published expert on the treatment of cleft palates in children, Mark is the consulting orthodontist for Waikato Hospital's Cleft Palate Team.

Peter Fowler  

Peter Fowler
Christchurch

Peter graduated from the University of Otago in 1981 with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery, and completed a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics at the University of London in 1988. He obtained a Diploma in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and Membership of Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, England. Peter also completed a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the specialty of Orthodontics 1992.

He is certified with the Australasian Orthodontic Board 2010 and is a Fellow of the International College of Dental Surgeons. In addition to private practice Peter works one day a week at the Christchurch Hospital working with cleft lip and palate and special needs children. He annually travels to Cambodia and Vietnam for voluntary work with cleft lip and palate clinics providing support, instruction and education.

 Bhavia Jattan

Bhavia completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Otago University in 2001 then worked for Queensland Health in Cairns before returning to general dental private practice in Auckland. She then went on to complete her Masters in Orthodontics at Otago, graduating with Distinction in 2006 and at the same time gaining the MOrthRCEd examination with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Having spent 3 years in specialist private practice in Albany, she set up Pukekohe Orthodontists in 2009, to provide the region with specialist, professional treatment and has never looked back since.

Bhavia is currently a registered member of the NZ Association of Orthodontists, NZ Dental Council, and Member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (MRACDS) and Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) Edinburgh.

Much of Bhavia’s life outside of work revolves around being a mum to her 4 beautiful daughters.

Winnifred Harding  

Winifred Harding
Dunedin

Winifred graduated as a dentist from Otago University in 1978. She practiced as a dentist in Auckland and London before returning to Otago in 1983 to study orthodontics. She graduated with her Masters in Dental Surgery (Orthodontics) in 1985. During her training she enjoyed some undergraduate teaching, and so in 1986 returned to teach both graduate and undergraduate students part time as well as having her own specialist private practice in Dunedin.

Winifred continues to teach graduate orthodontic students part time, to run a Craniofacial Anomaly Clinic at the Dental School and work in her private practice. She has had positions on the New Zealand Dental Association Board, the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Dental Association, the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists and the Asian and Pacific Orthodontic Society. She remains an active member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists and the Australasian Orthodontic Board.

 

Julian Haszard
New Plymouth

Julian graduated with BDS from Otago in 1999 and then worked for five years as a general dentist in NZ and the UK. Julian completed his orthodontic training at the University of Melbourne in 2007 and then worked in the UK. In 2011 Julian returned to his hometown of New Plymouth and set-up Total orthodontics with a branch in Hawera. Julian also works in Remuera with Drs Max and Beresford and is the visiting orthodontic specialist and the Taranaki Base Hopsital.

Julian is a registered specialist oorthodontist and is member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and Royal Colleges of Surgeons Edinburgh in Orthodontics. Julian is a co-founder of SmileHigh in Nepal and visits as often as possible to provide dental care to children in remote mountain areas.

Tania Hetz  

Tania Hetz
Auckland

After obtaining her dentist degree in Mexico and in Germany, Tania received her Masters degree of Orthodontics and Orofacial Orthopedics from the University of Aachen, Germany and her PhD in Orthodontics from the University of Düsseldorf, Germany in 2002.

Afterwards, back in Mexico she lectured at the Postgraduate Program of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and had her own private practice until 2009. Tania immigrated to New Zealand three years ago and is currently working in Auckland.

Judith Hey  

Judith Hey
Auckland

Judith graduated as a dentist from the University of Otago in 1980 and subsequently worked as a Dental House Surgeon in Auckland for two years, followed by 3 years in general dental practice in Auckland and Melbourne. She completed her Masters in Science (Orthodontics) at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London in 1987. At the same time she obtained a Diploma in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Edinburgh and subsequently became a member of the Australian College of Dental Surgeons.

Judith spent approximately 9 months doing research in the orthodontic department at the University of Iowa in the US, before returning in late 1988 to commence specialist orthodontic practice in Howick. She has been there ever since and is currently practicing in a group practice Hey, Bunyan and McAlister. 

Judith is an active member of the NZAO, and a member of the NZDA, World Federation of Orthodontist, British Orthodontic Society and an International member of the American Association of Orthodontists.

Heather Keall  

Heather Keall
Auckland

Heather graduated with a BDS from Otago in 1977 and obtained her specialist Orthodontic qualification from the University of Michigan in 1986. She also has a postgraduate diploma in paedatric dentistry. Heather served in the New Zealand Army until 1997, and is currently a Consultant orthodontist with the Cleft Lip and Palate Service at Middlemore Hospital.

She has a small private practice in West Harbour which she shares with her husband Chris who is a Specialist Restorative Dentist.

Betty Keng  

Betty Keng

Betty received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Otago University in 2003, before working as a Dental House Surgeon in Dunedin and then as a General Dentist in Palmerston North & Wanganui. She completed a Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics at Otago in 2009. She is a Member with the both the Australasian and Edinburgh Royal Colleges of Surgeon.

Born & raised in Auckland, Mark obtained his BDS from Otago University in 1993. He practised in Takapuna for 8 years as a general dentist. After completing his MDS in 2003, Mark worked for 'Your Smile Team' in Shell Harbour and Bowral in New South Wales, Australia.

In 2006, Mark and his family moved to Christchurch where he works part time as an orthodontic consultant at Christchurch Hospital and has now established his own private practice.

After practicing for five years as a general dentist, Tony graduated with a M.D.S (Orthodontics) at the University of Otago in 1978, setting up a specialist orthodontic practice in West Auckland. With a particular interest in bio-mechanics, Tony has written papers and lectured in New Zealand and overseas on this topic.

He has had an active role in the NZ Association of Orthodontists. He now divides his time between his five granddaughters, family winery in Cromwell, and his orthodontic practice at Frankton, Queenstown.

Donna Lim  

Donna Lim

Donna completed her undergraduate dental training at Otago University in 1996. She spent 6 years in general dental and hospital practice in Auckland, London and Melbourne before entering the University of Melbourne Doctor of Clinical Dentistry Specialist Orthodontics training programme in 2003. After completing the 3 year training programme in 2005, Donna practiced in London, United Kingdom for three and a half years in private specialist practice.

Donna returned to Auckland and has been in practice with Fiona Turner in New Lynn since 2010. She is also a visiting specialist orthodontist at a general dental practice in Manurewa. Donna is also a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association and Auckland Dental Association.

Russell Lovatt

Russell graduated as a Dentist from the University of Otago in 1991, and then worked in Private Practice in Australia for 5 years before completing his Specialist Masters degree in Orthodontics from the University of Western Australia in 1998. Since this time he has been proudly treating Cantabrians as Co-owner of Riccarton Orthodontic Practice from 1999-2012, before setting up his own tailor-made practice Christchurch Orthodontics in 2012, when the Earthquakes forced the closure of the original practice. Russell is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, where he is a past treasurer and current Chair of the Practice Accreditation programme.

Andrew Lush

Andrew attended Otago University graduating as a dentist in 1980 and subsequently worked as a house surgeon at Auckland hospital and in private practices in Auckland and the UK. He returned to Otago University for a further 3 years study graduating with his masters degree in orthodontics in 1990 and completing a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He has since been in specialist orthodontic practice in Nelson with a branch practice in Blenheim and works as part of the Hutt hospital cleft palate team.

Andrew has been a past secretary of the local branch of the NZDA and the NZAO and has been involved with other NZAO subcommittees.

Kieran O'Neill

Kieran is a registered Specialist Orthodontist in Invercargill who also has a branch practice in Queenstown. He practiced in Hamilton and then Melbourne, Australia, before returning to Otago University to complete his Masters in Dental Surgery in Orthodontics in 1994. He has been an active member of the NZAO , chairing the ERDG standing committee, and is currently the Vice President of NZAO. He is also a member of New Zealand Dental Association; the European Orthodontic Society and the American Association of Orthodontists.

He is married with three children. When not supporting them in their endeavours, he is involved in multisport, slightly competitive social cycling and kayaking.

   


Shahrzad MacAvoy

Auckland

Shaz is a specialist orthodontist in Royal Oak, Auckland specialising in stainless and clear braces, hidden braces and Invisalign. Originally from Auckland, Shaz started her career as a pharmacist before graduating as a dentist from the University of Sydney.

After working both in private practice and teaching dentistry for several years she moved to Dunedin to complete her specialist training to become a specialist orthodontist and gained a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics). She did this while concurrently pursuing an orthodontic research degree at the University of Sydney and additionally gained a Master of Philosophy (Orthodontics).

Andrew Marriott

Andrew Marriott is a registered specialist orthodontist with the Dental Council of New Zealand and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Andrew is a passionate founding trustee of the FORENZAO trust which raises funds for orthodontic research in New Zealand.

Robert Max  

Robert Max
Auckland

Dr Robert Max attended Otago University and then the Royal Dental Hospital in London.  After completing his internship in paediatric dentistry and orthodontics, he started his formal courses in orthodontics. Today, as well as providing orthodontic treatment, he gives lectures to both dental and orthodontic audiences and the general public. He has been in practice for more than 30 years and is a member of numerous organizations, such as the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the Australian Society of Orthodontists.

Dr Max is a past President and Hon. Life Member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists. He was a Founding member of the Executive of the World Federation of Orthodontists.  Married with four children and five endlessly fascinating grandchildren, he enjoys boating, reading and spending time with his family.

Lydia Meredith  

Lydia Meredith

Lydia worked as a general dentist for several years before deciding to specialise in Orthodontics. After completing her specialist training in Dunedin, she opened her own practice, Dunedin Orthodontics, where she now lives with her partner and family.

Lydia's patients enjoy a fun and friendly atmosphere where she provides the most up to date, evidence-based orthodontic treatment. She prides herself on her eye for detail, striving for the most beautiful smile in every patient as she knows what a big difference those final subtle changes can make. Lydia focuses on patient-centred care and offers free consultations to under 11 year olds so that Mum and Dad can get the right advice as early as they feel they need it.

Lydia plays an active role in the Dunedin branch of the NZDA (New Zealand Dental Association) as well as the NZAO (New Zealand Association of Orthodontics) and is a member of both the AAO (Americian Association of Orthodontics) and WFO (World Federation of Orthodontics).

Rachel J. Moore  

Rachel J Moore

Rachel attended Otago University, graduating as a dentist in 1991. Following three years in general dental practice, she gained a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and creating beautiful smiles. Rachel returned to Otago University for a further 3 years of study, graduating with her specialist Masters degree in Orthodontics in 1997.

Rachel has been in specialist orthodontic practice at Northland Orthodontics in Whangarei since then, with a branch practice in Dargaville. Since 2009 she has also held the position of Consultant Orthodontist at Whangarei hospital. Rachel is actively involved in the Northland branch of the NZDA, and various committees of the NZAO.

John Muir

John is a specialist orthodontist in Papatoetoe, Auckland in association with John Hodgson. After graduating as a dentist in 1971 from Otago University, he gained his specialist qualifications in England before returning to a teaching position at Otago University. In 1985 he joined the practice of Duncan Hodgson in Papatoetoe.

John is a past President of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists. He is also a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Mark Pinkerton

Mark graduated from dentistry in Otago in 1998 before embarking on a complex educational pathway including medicine and eventually orthodontics. Mark graduated from the Otago orthodontic program in December 2007, at the same time passing his MOrthRCSEd examination with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

Mark now divides his time between public and private practice, working as both a member of the cleft-lip and palate team at Middlemore Hospital and in partnership with David Wescott at Takapuna Orthodontic Group on Auckland’s North Shore.

 Jim Pretorius  

James Pretorius

James is a Specialist Orthodontist in Mairangi Bay on the North Shore. After qualifying as a dentist (BChD), James continued his studies and went on to achieve a Masters degree in Orthodontics (MChD) with distinction. During his Specialist training he held the position of Senior Lecturer at Pretoria University. 

In 1987 James and family moved to New Zealand to take up the position of Senior Lecturer in the Orthodontic Department at Otago University. The following year the family moved to Auckland to open a private Orthodontic Practice on the North Shore. He is currently working at the same location as a Specialist Orthodontist.

James is a registered member of the NZ Dental Association as well as the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists.

Nitin Raniga

Nitin Raniga is a registered Specialist Orthodontist in Auckland. Nitin is originally from Fiji and moved to Auckland in 1994. Nitin graduated with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (with Credit) from the University of Otago in 2000. After graduating as a dentist, he returned to Auckland to work in private practice from 2001-2006. In 2007, Nitin commenced a three-year full time orthodontic training programme at the University of Otago.

In December 2009, Nitin completed this training and graduated with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics and successfully achieved the prestigious Memberships in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Nitin has an orthodontic practice in Auckland with a branch practice in Rotorua.

Sabine Richter  

Sabine Richter
Invercargill

Sabine is a specialist orthodontist in Invercargill. After graduating as a dentist in 1989 in Germany, she completed a four-year postgraduate specialty training in orthodontics. She gained her specialist qualification and defended her doctoral thesis 1994 at the Martin-Luther-University in Germany (Dr. med.). Sabine has worked in private and public offices in Germany and the USA, and has held clinical lecturer and senior consultant positions at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany, before she and her family moved in 2007 to New Zealand.

Sabine is a member of the NZAO and has been working with Philip Sanford in Invercargill since 2010.

Philip graduated as a Dentist B.P.S Otago in 1972. On graduation he worked for the Auckland Hospital Board as a Dental House Surgeon and Registrar for 2 years. It was during this time in particular as a Registrar based at the cleft palate Middlemore Hospital that Philips interest in Orthodontics grew. After a year working as a Dentist in United Kingdom, Philip returned to Otago University for 3 years further study in Orthodontics and graduated in 1979 with M.D.S (Orthodontist).

Philip now works in Invercargill, Te Anau and Queenstown in private practice as well as being Consultant Orthodontist for the Southern Health Board at Southland Hospital Invercargill.

Mark Savage

Mark is a New Zealand graduate with specialist orthodontic degrees from the University of Washington. He ran a specialist orthodontic practice in Australia for twelve years with a consultant appointment to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and a teaching appointment at the University of Western Australia in Perth.

As well as maintaining the only specialist orthodontic practice in Wanganui, Mark has a branch practice in Marton and a Senior Consultant position in the Plastic Surgery Department of Lower Hutt Hospital, dealing with cleft lip and palate patients, other syndromes and facial reconstructions.

John is a specialist orthodontist in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore. Graduating from Otago University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Dentistry, John practiced general dentistry in Lower Hutt and Porirua Hospitals, the NZ Defence Force, and Harley Street, London.

Kirsty attended Otago University, graduating as a dentist in 1998. Following 3 years in Hawkes Bay both in hospital and private practice, she completed her specialist masters degree in orthodontics in 2004 (Otago), followed by time consolidating her skills in the UK. While in the UK Kirsty gained exposure and experience by working in two specialist orthodontic practices. Four years ago Kirsty returned to Hawkes Bay, opening a specialist orthodontic practice in Havelock North.

Kirsty holds a Masters of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics (Otago and Edinburgh), is a member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), a keen runner, and mum of three young children.

Janice Sommerville

Janice has a specialist orthodontic practise at 5 St Mark's, Remuera, Auckland. She has a New Zealand dental degree and a Masters in Orthodontics from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Janice worked as a dentist in Auckland and London, and as an orthodontist in Chicago before setting up her Auckland practise. Her practise includes children and adults, with the benefit of interdisciplinary care provided by the other dental specialists.

After working in Auckland as a general dentist and in London as an orthodontist, Katherine was incredibly happy to discover the East Coast of the North Island and make Gisborne her home in 2003.

Kimberley successfully completed her examinations to gain a Membership in Orthodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Kimberley works as an orthodontic specialist in Rothesay Bay on Auckland’s North Shore together with Dr Karen Brook at their practice Brook and Timmins Specialist Orthodontists.

Fiona Turner

Fiona is a specialist orthodontist in New Lynn, Auckland in association with Donna Lim. After graduating as a dentist in 1991 from Bristol University (England) she worked in hospitals and general practice. Having gained fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons, England, Fiona completed her three year specialist degree in Orthodontics at University of Otago in 1999.

Ali is proud to call Hamilton home having completed the majority of his schooling in the mighty Tron,  including his intermediate and secondary school education. He undertook his tertiary studies at the University of Otago from 2001 till 2006, during which he maintained close ties with family and friends in the Waikato region. After completion of his dentistry degree, Ali spent a year in Hervey Bay, in Australia, before returning to his beloved Hamilton to work as a private dentist.

Ali's 9-year journey through tertiary education and love affair with the South has finally come to an end having recently completed the orthodontic postgraduate course at the University of Otago. He is now looking forward to using his skills and experience in servicing and giving back to the community he calls home - the Waikato. Ali also undertakes work in Rotorua and the Whakatane.

David Wescott

David is a specialist orthodontist at Takapuna Orthodontic Group (TOG) with his business partner Mark Pinkerton. After graduating as a dentist in 1999 from Otago University with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) he worked as a dental house surgeon at Greenlane Hospital and Middlemore Hospital from 2000-2001. He then spent the next two years as a dentist in Auckland, followed by another two year period in Invercargill as a dentist.

He then returned to Otago University in 2006 and graduated with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics (DClinDent (Orth)) in 2008, which allowed him to register as specialist orthodontist in New Zealand. A month later, he passed membership examinations held by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Orthodontics and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthodontics. David is a committee member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists.

Matthew Williams

Matthew joined Wellington Orthodontic Associates in 1992 after completing a Master's degree in Orthodontics at Otago University. He previously qualified as a dentist in 1982 and worked for several years in general dental practice both in New Zealand and overseas.

Matthew serves on the committee of the NZAO Orthodontic Auxiliary Training Programme and is also a committee member and past president of the Wellington branch of the NZDA.
